Artist Donald Lipski has a long history of utilizing readymade objects in the creation of his works. For the Wellington Webb Municipal Building in Denver, Colorado Lipski wanted to showcase the tools that build and maintain the city as a suite of floating sculptures. The works appear to hover in front of a 60’ limestone wall and utilizes tools including fire axes, desk chairs, dustpans, computer screens, and many other tools that represent various city functions that occur within the building. Showcasing these tools as sculptural forms allows the viewer to see these works in a new context removed from their utilitarian function.
